Pit Bull Terrier at FULL SHELTER!!(will be neutered and shots for sale in Baugh, Oklahoma

Thorton is being fostered by a dog trainer, this is what she has to say about him. Thorton:
What can I say? Thorton is a miracle. He has transformed from an unruly, pushy, ill mannered brat that was scheduled to be euthanized to an almost perfect gentleman that will steal your heart.
When Thorton first came into our system, he had no boundaries. If he wanted to do it, he did. He had no clue what the word no meant. He was basically a big, strong, juvenile delinquent. He would literally push through the gate and over you when it was opened.
Now, he has a good grip on obedience. He waits patiently at the gate until his leash is attached and he is told he can go. He walks pretty well on the leash without pulling, once in a while he still needs to be reminded. We are starting the heel command, I think hell pick it up pretty fast. He has learned a variety of commands, including sit, down, wait, stay, off, come, leave it, lets go, and the most important command of allNo.
He no longer grabs food from your hand or tries to chew on your arms and hands when he wants to play. He loves to be close to his person, preferably in a lap if allowed. He plays with our other three dogs (all big) and gets along great with everything on the farm, cats, horses, cows, chickens and peacocks. That being said, we still dont let him off leash unless he is in a confined area. He does a great recall inside and in the fenced yard, but not so well in an open area. He still wants to explore. He is now crate trained and I have begun leaving him loose in my shop by himself (he goes to work with me) and he does fine. So far, nothing chewed up or marked on! At first he went through a little separation anxiety, so he may do so again when he goes to a new home. It probably wont last long though. Like I said earlier, he is an almost perfect gentleman. He still has some areas that need work and will probably need reminders for some time to come. He basically had to be untrained from his previous experiences while he was learning his new manners.
So, the perfect home for Thorton..would be with someone that is willing to train and work with Thorton. I cant stress this enough. It would be very easy for him to revert to his old habits if he is not worked with. He needs a firm hand. Not cruel, just firm. He does best when he gets some sort of active exercise on a daily basis. Jogging, chasing balls (actually, he prefers squeaky toys), vigorous walks, etc. I have worked with him a little on agility and he is absolutely fearless! He loves it and doesnt give a second thought to going over or through the obstacles. Since he is a big, strong dog, he would probably be best in a home without small children. Im not sure about small dogs. To be honest, I havent had him around either and dont know how he would be with them. I dont think he would be aggressive, but he could run over them. It would be best if he was not kept in a kennel, but was with someone for most of the day. He has been fostered this way and has made remarkable leaps forward. He has spent way too many hours in kennels in the past. I think to do so again would restart some of his old, bad habits.
Thorton has a heart of gold and is incredibly intelligent. He loves people and needs someone that will love him forever. Hes had a really unstable past and needs the security of knowing hes not going to be left again. It will likely be difficult on him at first when he leaves his foster home. It is the first place where he probably has felt like he belonged. So, there could be some regression, but Im confident it can be worked through.
Mindy Adoption fee is $45. If you are interested in giving him a forever home please fill out an adoption application at
